from Charles Manson (ATWA | ATWAR)

Button + Digital Track

Dead Rider (Self Portrait #7-2014) Martyr badge|button available to purchase as a pair .5” and .8” circular on 1.1.18. - art designed by Charlie, who drew and painted many different versions of the famous “Manson” image from the cover of Life (LIE) magazine, published 12.1969.
The photo was taken on 4.22.1968. when Charlie was arrested in Ventura County.
“Keep in mind that the Life cover came out just one year after Nixon was elected on a promise to stop all those long haired dope and sex peaceniks from disrupting the social order. It was a political signal that the hippie movement was dangerous. And a lot of the Republican public wanted to see a backlash against hippies, so Life was selling a product many sought.
And even though of course that Life issue made sure every literate American already accepted the concept of a hippie cult led by a guru, this front page story in the city where the trial would be held was also important, since it set the myth in place for any prospective jurors immediately...” -Nikolas Schreck
